3. Enter the year, for example 1998. It engraves along the bottom as EST. 1998.

Does the middle line have to say BASEBALL?
No. That line is yours. BASEBALL is the default, but plenty of people make it a place instead: McCloskey's Dugout, Miller Field, Johnson Stadium. Keep it to about 11 characters.

Can I put Coach and his name on it?
Yes. The name line takes about 16 characters, so Coach Miller fits comfortably, and so does a family name on its own.

Is it a display piece or can he use it?
Use it. The carved drip ring around the edge catches juices, which is what it is there for. Hand wash it and keep it out of the dishwasher so it does not warp.
